New Poll Shows Wiviott Surging on Wave of Change
Santa Fe, NM - With just over eight weeks until June 3rd, Don Wiviott is heading into the primary with a wave of growing momentum. According to new polling, Wiviott's support among voters is surging and his message of bringing change to a broken system in Washington continues to resonate strongly with New Mexicans.
Despite polling in single digits several weeks ago, the new Lake Research poll of Third District voters shows Wiviott bounding to within seven points of his nearest opponent.
"This race is wide open,” said Celinda Lake, President of Lake Research Partners. “Momentum is clearly on his side. Every day more and more voters are responding positively to his call for change.”
"I am very humbled by the outpouring of support our campaign continues to generate," Wiviott said. "People are desperate for change and leaders who can deliver it. For too long, Congress has stood idly as Bush Republicans replace our government with divisive politics and right-wing ideology. New Mexico needs to elect leaders who will fight tooth and nail to move our country forward and put the interests of the American people first."
Wiviott's momentum is a reflection of his growing grassroots support from New Mexicans disillusioned with insider politics and the influence of corporate lobbyists in Washington. Wiviott believes too many politicians have lost touch with the people who sent them there and are turning a blind eye to the most pressing problems confronting Americans, such as skyrocketing gas prices, an ailing economy, and lack of adequate health care coverage.
The new poll comes on the heels of Wiviott's major endorsement of former Ambassador Joe Wilson, a respected American diplomat and anti-war critic. Wilson cited Wiviott's outsider credentials and commitment to finding a sensible end to the War in Iraq as key reasons for supporting him.
